Winter time is a down time for the Shoe String Band, musically at least. Some of us, i.e., banjo-player Jeff Crane, make the most of winter. He's just returned from fulfilling a longtime dream trip, if you're a winter sports enthusiast, you can read about it on his Catskills Freeheel blog.

But even though the Shoes are not stepping out as much as we were a few months ago, we have been keeping in tune, playing here and there, and looking forward more music in the coming months. On the near horizon we have a couple of dates coming up:

Rosendale Winter Farmers Market 11-2 Sun. Feb. 3

Mohonk Mountain House Square Dance w/ Liz Slade 8:30 - 10:30 Fri. Feb 15 (not a public event, but if you want to come along, email us, the band can always bring a few guests)

and be sure to put this one on your calendar:

On Sat. April 13th, the Shoe String Band will be hosting an evening of oldtime music, dance, lore and more under the auspices of the Stone Ridge Library and the Dutchess County Arts Council. Details will be coming soon but we just wanted to say thanks to Diane at the Stone Ridge Library and to the Dutchess County Arts Council for their support and assistance on this.

Other happenings in the Hudson Valley oldtime community:

Oldtime jams are ongoing in Beacon, Yorktown Heights, and Saugerties; players of all levels welcome, email us for details.

And last but not least, the Hudson Valley Draft Horse Association annual Spring Plow Day will be taking place on Saturday May 4th from 10 AM to 4 PM at Saunderskill Farms on Rt. 209 in Accord, NY. This is always a lot of fun and a chance to get up close and personal with these amazing animals.
And, hey look! We're already into May!
